Zinc, Rack and Barrel Plating

L.J. Electro Plating was established in 2001. We started very small. From humble beginning, after 16 years, we pride ourselves to take on any big or small electro plating job.

Here at L.J. Electro Plating we specialize in electroplating, by giving metal objects a better appearance or to protect them from corrosion, wear, or rust.

We offer a wide range of customized electroplating and related metal finishing services that help our industrial and manufacturing customers develop higher quality products and lower their operating costs.

What Is The Electro Plating Process?

Zinc Electro Plating is a process where you deposit a thin layer of Zinc onto mild steel. The reason for that is to protect the steel against corrosion.

Electro Plating is a process that uses electric current to reduce disolved metal cations so that they form a cohecent metal coating on a electrode.

What Is Electro Plating Used For?

It is most commonly used for industrial and decorative purposes and to prevent corrosion of metals. Electro plating allows manufacturers to use inexpensive metals such as steel to manufacture their product and then electro plate zinc onto the part to provide for appearance, protection, and other properties desired for the product.

With years of experience, we strive for customer satisfaction, no matter how big or small the job!

Preperation Methods:

A few factors can determine whether a product can be successfully electro plated or not. Below are some simple guidelines on design and product preparation before plating. We also understand the relationship between design and manufacturing / plating of products and the challenges involved.

Drainage:

Products for all finishes must be able to drain freely. Items are moved through a series of tanks and must not carry solution from one tank to another. Correctly placed drainage and breathing holes as well as the absence of any cupping areas where solution may be trapped are important.

Shading:

Shading is the phenomenon where the free passage of metal deposits is blocked by the complexity of the object to be plated. Double walled products, excessive recesses and assemblies with overlapping parts are usually concerns that need to be addressed before plating takes place. For much larger items, extra labour costs will be incurred. It is also important that products fit into our plating tanks, larger items that take up more room in the tanks will be more costly as costing is based on amount of products that our tank can take and the plating time needed per finish.

Plating Build Up:

Electro plating deposits will build more thickly on sections that “stick out”, and items fitting together with close tolerances may need to be shielded or masked off to lower or stop deposition.

Surface Preperation:

Whilst we are able to easily remove most dirt, rust and mill scale, removal of paint and old plating is an extra process, carrying additional cost. Welding slag and excessive welding build up is not removed by our processes and should be cleaned off prior to delivery of the item to us.
